For Hillary Clinton Supporters

Day before yesterday, I was reflecting on the news over the holiday and I wrote some notes to Bernie supporters…just a few helpful comments I thought. Now, I’d like to turn my attention to the supporters of Hillary Clinton with a few helpful comments.

I have read so many comments from supporters who are incensed that Bernie Sanders has the audacity to actually take away from the Queen’s coronation and they are not pretty. It makes it extremely difficult to actually respond without being ugly because so many of them ARE ugly…and they talk about the Bernie Bros! (an aside, I really believe most of the Bernie Bro nonsense was made up or at minimum, greatly exaggerated) I have personally taken on more than a few because they are just so damn obnoxious in their total lack of understanding where we came from and what we want. It seems many of you have bought the Clinton Machine and the corporate media’s line.  They ignored Bernie for as long as possible and then when he actually started winning despite the blackout, they started bad mouthing him. Now, I hear regurgitation of the nonsense coming from the rank and file. Here’s the thing: Bernie will endorse if and when he actually feels that he CAN endorse her.  At this time, he has just a tiny bit of leverage because he has brought in many, many people who have never been politically involved and some of those people are understandably upset and hurt because they are not used to the workings of politics and politicians.  He has to use that leverage and try to do the best he can at molding the platform to represent those over 13 million voters.  If he does not do that, you can completely count out a reasonably sized segment of his voters and Hillary can not afford to do that.  There are a whole lot of people who absolutely HATE the Clintons and will not vote for her no matter what.  There is nothing you can do to turn them towards her and your best hope is that they sit out or vote for Jill Stein. You do NOT want them voting for Trump!

And yes, some of them could vote for Trump because they are so sick to death of politics as usual in Washington and they feel no loyalty to a party that has done them no favors either.   They see HRC as the epitome of sleazy politician…and they have good reason to believe that. Some, probably even most, of the talking points out there are made up nonsense the Republicans have been beating on for years…ala Benghazi and now the emails.  Unfortunately,  she has come across as not quite honest…maybe her personality and maybe her distaste from so many bad raps but it doesn’t matter. She does NOT have a sterling reputation.  She DOES have some very neoliberal policies that disgust those of us who have been in the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party and she has never met an intervention she doesn’t like.  She and Bill have always been just a little bit grifter when it came to fundraising, not unlike the Rs and she supports the wealthy a whole lot more than she thinks of any of us normal people…but that doesn’t make her a criminal or even a bad person.  She has always supported women and children so there’s that. I also believe she is smart and has a good grip on the political machinations necessary to govern…even if I don’t think she will be particularly progressive.  These are the issues that many of Bernie Sanders supporters have to work through before they can see themselves voting for her.

Personally, I saw what happened in 2000 and what that led to so there is no way in hell I am voting for anyone other than Hillary. The idea of Trump and whichever Republicans he can convince to stand with him picking the next SC justice sends shivers through me.  I truly see him as the next Hitler…this is how fascism grows!  I am horrified that so many actually can’t see through him or else choose not to in order to just send a huge middle finger to the nation.  That is the ONLY thing that will lead to a Hillary win and I think you supporters would do well to temper your righteous anger just a bit because of that realization.  I think a nice dose of humility would serve you well because you’re attitude that all Bernie supporters are naive kids or stupid is not going over well with us younger longer liberals.  I can guarantee you that my distaste for Trump is the only reason I am voting for Hillary and if I wasn’t terrified of what the crazies would do, I would let you steam in your own hubris by helping to bring about the downfall of the party…that’s how pissed I am at the nonsense being spouted by many of you. Let me take a few minutes to answer some of your most repeated critiques.

Bernie isn’t even a Democrat: Well, no, he considers himself a Democratic Socialist. Now, the first part of that statement is the one I want to point out.  It doesn’t say Republican socialist does it?  No, it does not.  While I certainly do not know exactly what he thinks, my opinion is that if the Democratic Party would not have turned into Republican Lite, he would consider himself a Dem but since the party bears no real similarities to the New Deal Democrats from back in the day, it is more a statement that he is not like the corporate Dems we now have.  He has always caucused with the Dems and voted with them. Also, this particular knock is also a knock against people like me.  I have voted Democratic for over 40 years and it pisses me off to have these corporate shills and their adherents refer to me as something else.

Bernie has pie-in-the-sky ideas: They used to be the Democratic Platform.  This particular knock makes me angrier than the rest of them because the platform he espouses had always been what we were working for since FDR.  How is it that now the Democratic Party won’t fight for universal healthcare, higher wages, free community college and criminal and social justice?  All of that is what we were supposed to be about all along, not free trade agreements and giving Big Pharma and the insurance companies huge gifts!  Every other nation in the world has many if not all of these benefits to their people except us…how did that happen?  We’ve moved so far to the right that the rich elites in our party don’t even realize the base is hurting and mad as hell.  I guess as long as their pockets are full, no need to worry about the base…right?  The fact is, Bernie DOES have a plan but it will take more than just electing a President, it will take a revolution…and that is what he has been pulling for. He has always been about the need for all of us to rise and make the government be responsive to us, the people.  Shame on you for acting like that is a stupid thing to do.  We can do-it just means reallocating some of our tax dollars to things the people want instead of things to make the 1% richer.

Bernie is just being egotistical: Not by a long shot! No, he has always said US not ME.  He is only prolonging this because it is what is needed to bring along his followers. Your heaping of disgust on him just pisses off the people who supported him.  You are not helping by being ugly or insulting to those who supported him.  You think that will work?  You think you will what, browbeat us into submission? No, you are basically pushing us away and if you think that is a good idea, you really need to actually read more than

Bernie just says the same thing over and over: Not true…again. You might try to listen to what he is saying though because he has reached a lot of people and they are EXCITED to work for him…contrary to the Meh about HRC.  He has understood what has been happening to the middle class where Hillary has not been responsive to that. If you don’t want to listen, then go to the website and read about it. Just stop assuming 13 million people are stupid and want free stuff.  You sound like Republicans.

Bernie just needs to STFU and support her already: No he doesn’t.  No one HAS to support someone who doesn’t hold the same beliefs.  You people are the ones who need to just STFU and let Bernie and his followers do what it takes to allow themselves to hold their noses and vote for someone they don’t like.  If you could possibly do that without being asses about the whole thing, you might find that many of Bernie’s followers will follow him to HRC. I assure you that if you continue to act the way many of you have been, you will NOT be seeing as many people turning to her and you may have a very long election night.

To be honest, there is a part of me that feels that none of this bullshit will change until the rural and working class whites figure out that the Republicans are never going to do anything for them.  That they have been misled and used to further an agenda that really doesn’t include them.  That they have purposely been lied to only to inflame fear and divide the people so the rich can do whatever they want.  This has been the modus operendi for 30 years and it infuriates me to know that so many people believe the lie because they don’t understand and are fearful of the changes happening around them.  I can’t even begin to respond right now to the Religious Right and the damage they have done by changing Christianity to Republicanity. All of this so some rich white men can maintain the power for awhile longer.  I’m afraid nothing will change until these people get the government they deserve BUT Trump is not the one to do that.  I’m very afraid he will lead us into very bad places and I have grandchildren I love.

Personal notes to Certain Political Factions

I happen to have had a few days off over the holiday and of course, it rained every. single. day!  So, I happened to watch a whole lot of TV and of course at this point in time, it’s a whole lot of political bullcrap…especially after yesterday’s FBI announcement clearing Hillary of any criminal charges but saying enough to set off both echo chambers.  I have a few opinions for each of the important factions at this time.  Today, I’ll start with Bernie Sanders.

For Bernie Supporters

I know, I know. I supported him too. For the first time in many, many years I was excited about a candidate.  Bernie spoke to both heart and mind.  What he has worked for his entire life were the same type of issues I would’ve liked to work for my whole life. I didn’t do much more than drag out my soap box on occasion but Bernie did.  Bernie was the little known socialist toiling away in obscurity for years until he wasn’t this year.  His ideas literally burst on the scene in ways no one saw coming.  I’d like to think he was the sane voice in the wilderness of the aggrieved middle class remnants.  He reached an untapped and for years hidden well of like-minded former hippies and a whole new demographic of young people who do not ascribe to the fear of socialism many older Americans do.  And it caught like wild-fire!

Unfortunately, for many different reasons, that wild-fire didn’t extend to actually voting.

That’s right. He lost. HRC got a whole lot more votes than Bernie got.  Now, you can complain about it.  You can say the system was rigged.  Maybe it was.  You can say there was voter suppression and/or actual flipped votes.  Again, maybe there were problems.  There usually are.  Somehow, after all these years, we seem to still be unable to have smooth elections.  It happens every time.  The losers always complain that somehow they were cheated. And maybe they were but there is no way to prove it and no way to do it over.  So now it’s time to just stop and STFU. No, HRC is not being indicted and no, there’s no way in hell the delegates are going to flip for Bernie.  Most of HRC’s superdelegates HATE Bernie-legitimately or not, they will NOT VOTE FOR HIM.  It’s over. It is done! As disappointing as it is, Bernie Sanders will NOT be President of the US.

At this point, we have a few options.  We can continue to act like spoiled children and help the Republicans out by continuing to bash her.  It’s particularly galling to hear Bernie supporters regurgitating the Republican talking points over the last 20 years. Yes, she has some issues.  Yes, she is the epitome of the caricature politician. No, I don’t agree with her on a whole lot of issues BUT she is far and away better than what the other side is offering. Most of the talking points the R’s use are lies they have been telling for 20 years. The Clintons do have the unmistakable ability to look like trouble even when it’s not any different than any one else (see email and Benghazi and Vince Foster and Gennifer Flowers and Monica Lewinsky, etc.) The problem is, the Republicans are just a bunch of hypocrites and they are the ones who put most of this “dishonesty” stuff out there for public consumption. Hillary isn’t any different than most of them-exception of course for our dude. Hillary has always stood up for children and women’s issues…that is important to me.  She is very strong on gun control and that is important to me.  Yes, she is status quo but at least I can live with that but I refuse to consider the option of doing anything to help elect Donald Trump because he would be devastating for our country and what would happen to the Supreme Court makes me want to cry for the generation to follow!

Now many of you say that you would NEVER vote for Hillary.  You claim you’re voting for Bernie Sanders regardless.  Some of you say you will vote for Jill Stein.  Some of you say you won’t vote at all.  I say you’re all acting like the freakin’ Tea Party.  Grow up!!!!! No, HRC is NOT as good as our candidate but she IS the only other VIABLE candidate. Believe me when I tell you that all these Republicans who say #neverTrump are lying.  When it comes down to it, they will pull that lever or make that X for the Donald before they would EVER vote for a Democrat-especially the Democrat they have hated and made up stuff about for over 20 years. So remember when Bush “won” against Gore? Remember what that got us? Yeah. If you really want to make things better, you need vote for the better, more qualified candidate and that is Hillary Clinton.

And instead of continuing to act like spoiled children, you should drag your ass out of your chair in 2018 and try voting in midterms so we don’t have a gerrymandered government of conservative candidates trying to take away your rights and stopping the elected President from doing any of the things we said we wanted but were too lazy to bother to vote in the midterms. You should still do just what Bernie said and work for and vote for progressive candidates who will represent you the way you want instead of allowing the fear mongers to set the agenda.

NEXT: To Hillary Supporters.
